This post represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a team of staff in Keele University’s. The Faculty of Natural Sciences is responsible for School of Chemical and Physical Sciences.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a busy team of administrators, technical and academic staff. As a member of the School technical team, you will provide efficient and comprehensive technical support in the delivery of practical laboratory classes, primarily in the Physics and Astrophysics degrees. You will be responsible for ordering and issuing of equipment and consumables and for designing, building and maintaining new equipment for laboratory use. The post holder will work closely with the Physics and Astrophysics Programme Director and members of the academic team and will involve liaison with a range of internal and external people. Your responsibilities will include set up the laboratories to deliver practical classes in Physics and Astrophysics, overseeing the PCs in the School Computer Lab and the Astrophysics Computer Lab, maintaining and updating software and ensuring that the labs are ready for teaching sessions.

You will be qualified to NVQ Level 3 or possess equivalent professional experience in Physical Sciences. You will have experience of working in a science laboratory or related area and the ability to design, build and maintain laboratory equipment used in Physics and Astrophysics. Other essential criteria includes: the ability to work under own initiative to organise, plan and prioritise your own work; excellent IT skills and the knowledge of updating specialist software across a local network; and excellent interpersonal communication skills which can be used across a wide range of different audiences. You will also be a strong team player and have a customer friendly approach in your contact with students, staff and visitors.
